Our Mindful Trauma-Informed Yoga Therapy Program is for inpatient and outpatient program populations to support individuals who are experiencing trauma-induced changes, or dysregulation, in the brain and nervous system.
Through a comprehensive trauma-informed yoga therapy and mindfulness practice, individuals are helped to find more regulation, by way of decreasing sympathetic nervous system activity, increasing parasympathetic nervous system activity, calming the amygdala, and decreasing levels of cortisol in the body.
The associated symptoms of trauma -- hyperarousal, hypoarousal, and emotional reactivity -- are responsive to the somatic intervention of movement through Yoga: breathing, Yoga postures, mindfulness meditation, and relaxation are also an integral part of the Mindful Trauma-Informed Yoga Therapy program. According to the IAYT, research into effects on specific concerns is promising, and yoga has been used as an adjunctive therapy for anxiety, insomnia, and other conditions.
Please Note: Mindful Trauma-Informed Yoga Therapy is an adjunct to an individual's
continued care and treatment with their Mental Health Professional
